The Power to Life?

So in class last week we had a debate on a basic and popular topic; abortion. For or against it?

I’m personally against it after a certain amount of time but there are many good reasons to be for it as well, and thats why I debated on the ‘for’ side as I knew most people would be against abortion. It seemed like a challenge.

Here’s a little Debate with Myself

Against: Everyone deserves to live. You shouldn’t have the power to take life from someone. Even if its unborn, it still has the potential to become a human being. If you don’t want the child you should have been more careful. Its not the baby’s fault that you don’t want it.

For: The people who are bringing something to the world should have a say in whether they can keep it or not, it’s not always about wanting or not, there are many problems such as being poor and not being able to support a child, or not being ready. There are cases such as rape in which you can’t really do anything about it.

Against: Even if someone gets pregnant by rape, a life is a life. I don’t think not being ready is an excuse for aborting.

For: Not being ready is a good excuse since teenaged girls of this generation are getting pregnant all over the world. If you’re just 13 and you have a kid, you know you’re not going to be a good parent. Chances are you’re going to die in childbirth anyway. And if you don’t, it will still effect your life.

Against: Thats a risk you have to take. There are always foster homes that are willing to take in the child.

And so on. As you see, this debate can go on forever. But there are many good points to it. And in the end you just have to think about it… Should you really have the power to destroy life?

Come to Pakistan

Dear friend.

Come to Pakistan! I know it’s not an ideal place to be, but it still is amazing. You might have heard a never ending amount of bad things about Pakistan, and about life in Pakistan, and we accept it. But what  you have not heard are the good things that this country has to offer.

First of all, Pakistan has true beauty. Places like Murree are so fresh with greenery and the weather there is amazing. Mountains are great. There are so many places to visit, like the Khyber Pass, K2 mountain, Sea View in Karachi (Although It is rather smelly and dirty), so many mosques, and Margalla hills, and a lot more. The weather is very hot here most of the times, and very sunny, so if you’re interested in a tan, it’s the place to be!

Another thing is the fashion. Pakistani fashion is really amazing. There’s so many different types of clothing. Bridal wear, Lawn, Chiffon, Silk, etc. Especially for woman! Clothes are the main attraction for woman in Pakistan. I bet they spend more time with their tailors than their own husbands. Anyway, you could get formal wear, semi formal wear, party wear, kurti’s, shalwar kameez, peshwas, Anarkali, casual wear, and oh! So many shoes! The shoes you get here are so pretty, designed with stones and what not!

And the food is to DIE for. Where do I even start? Biryani is one of my personal favourite from all of the pakistani cuisine. Especially my moms. Rice and meat and sometimes potatoes full of flavour and spices. Yum… And then there’s Nihari which you eat with a naan bread (which is amazing when its fresh and crispy) and there is amazing barbeque stuff like Chicken Tikka and seekh kebab, you also get Behari kebab and all sorts of kebabs. There’s so many types of delicious breads like naan, Sheermal, paratha, chapati, and so on. You can buy these really tasty rolls, and on the streets you can get these really cheap but good burgers. I won’t guarantee that it’s all hygienic but… it’s worth it. And the desserts! There are so many types of delicious sweets like Gulab Jaman, Jalebi, Falooda Ice cream, kheer, zarda, halwa, and so much more. I’m not exactly sure how to describe them, but when you come over, I will surely make you taste all of these. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

Let’s not forget our religious and traditional ceremonies! First of all, Eid. Eid’s are great. The first Eid is really fun, we go around meeting our relatives and all our family members, and we have lunch and dinner together, and the elders give the younger some money as a gift. The other Eid is when goats and cows are sacrificed and we eat the slaughtered meat. It’s a really fun event. The whole family gathers around and we get our goats slaughtered. It’s not a good (or nice smelling) site, but it’s the joy that counts. I’m not a fan of meat but… It’s still FUN. And the weddings! Those are one of the most amazing celebrations. The traditional weddings are really full of fun. And busy. During the time of a wedding you get to dance (I don’t dance, but anyway) and watch people dance, and sing, and choose clothes to wear, and go to the parlor to get your hair done and what not.  And then there’s Independence day. On fourteenth august everyone will be wearing green and white, and everyone will have a flag on their roofs or balconies.  You can come any time of the year, and I’m sure SOMETHING WILL happen. And thats something will be very fun.

I know you know that Pakistan is full of terrorism, with bomb blasts and firing and target killing and poverty and a corrupt government and that every step outside home is a risk, but thats everything that the media has been telling you. Yes, it IS true but has the media ever told you anything that I have mentioned above? I thought not. We ARE still surviving aren’t we? And  Everything set aside, Pakistan was made to be an amazing country, and it always will be.  So I’m inviting you now, to come here to enjoy this country with me, and without a doubt, you will have the time of your life.

Libya is free :D

This afternoon on television on every single news channel there was news about Mumammar al Gaddaffi been found in a hole in Sirte, and being wounded on his legs… But I just looked through some posts on Facebook, and according to a lot of my friends, he is actually dead!

This man deserved to be killed, and his death was definitely to be celebrated. You might think that one’s death should never be celebrated, but this man has probably killed and tortured about over 20,000 innocent people. He killed people for showing their opinions, killed journalists, ordered girls to be raped. He chose not to surrender and called his own people rats. And when the time came he begged them not to shoot.

I remember in the time I used to live there, Gadaffi was the Voldermort of Libya. The He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. You weren’t supposed to talk about him publicly. He had people everywhere who could just take you away and make you disappear.

In two days its going to be the eight month anniversary of my evacuation from there. The cool thing is that my dad is in Tripoli at the moment and he’s been there for almost a month now. And he’s experiencing the celebrations of the Libyan people. Which would be really awesome. I’m really proud of them. 42 years of suffering ends today.

Who’s the rat now?

Friiiiday!

I loveee Fridays. Just that feeling that you have two days all to yourself (and a biiit of homework and school stuff). Also Fridays are short. Bio and Chemistry were okay today. I honestly prefer Biology over chemistry though. I feel that I understand it more. And physics was… well… It’s physics. It cant be good. English Language was alright. And Literature was good. I like literature. It’s really interesting. Shakespeare and all. Yeah. Hmmm….. Then I got to go home. Home sweet home. Home is nice. Anyway, Fridays mean I get to watch a new episode of Vampire Diaries and Glee! I was really happy with the new episodes of both of these shows. For VD… Team Stefan all the way. The episode was just amazing. Aaaaaand Glee made me really happy today. I mean, at the end they sang a song by Coldplay. Yes. COLDPLAY. I loveee Coldplay. They sang Fix You, which is one of my favourites. And then later I did some math work and then we went to my grandmothers place for dinner. And now I’m here apparently. Blogging. I’m really new to this. But yeah. Well I think that’s all I have to say for now. Peaaace out.

Talking about my day.

Okay. I’m gonna go on about my day today. So lets see… So it started as waking up from a lovely dream at about 6.45 am.  Then after getting dressed I headed out to the elevator to get to school. The elevator stopped like three times for more people. First period was math… It was okay. We had a quiz. Quadtratics -__- history was the same as usual, English was a free period. Geography was the same as usual… And then Journalism! Yeah I kind of look forward to journalism class. It’s actually pretty interesting. Thats actually why I’m on this site, typing up this post at this exact moment. What am I doing now…. Watching an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond with the family. And then Masterchef Australia :D It’s addicting stuff.  Hmmm… Now I’m reading through this and realising how boring my day has been… The sad part is that almost every day of mine is like this. Lets see what happens tomorrow.

What’s up.

Hey people. My name is Rubiyah and I’m new to this site. It’s going to take a while for me to get the hang of it.  Errr… Well now I don’t know what to say. I’m just exploring at the moment. So… seeyaaaa.
